The hill is named after an Englishman Mr. Ross, who constructed his house on this hill during 1864. Among the line of three hills, one is\u00a0 Ishak Medina, a tomb of the Sayed Ali Medina, a Muslim saint,another hill is The Venkateswara hill has a dedicated to Sri Venkateswara Konda. And the central one is\u00a0 the highest mount is the Ross Hill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body\">Shrine of Our Lady Of immaculate Ross Hill is located at the entrance of the Visakhapatnam harbour, has an interesting history. A judge called Ross after whom the hill got its name owned a bungalow on the hill. In 1866, the then Bishop Msgr J.M. Tissot acquired the bungalow. An altar was erected and blessed as a chapel on August 15, 1867, by the then Vicar General Fr. Richard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body\"><b>New statue<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A chapel was solemnly blessed in May, 1877 and a new statue of Our Lady placed in it. A new church was built by Fr. Contat with the permission of the Bishop.The new church was blessed by Bishop Clerc on December 6, 1905. Since 1900 the taking out of a procession from St. Aloysius School to the hill on December 8 began. The path leading to the chapel Shrine of Our Lady Of Immaculate (Mary Matha)\u00a0 is beautifully adorned with Catholic icons and images of mysteries of Holy Rosary. A grand annual procession\u00a0 carried out to the Ross Hill Church to mark the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Blessed Virgin Mary here on every year\u00a0 8th of December Thousands of devotees from Visakhapatnam and the neighboring coastal districts and Orissa participated in the colourful procession that began from St. Aloysius&#8217; High School.<br \/>\nThe hill offers a beautiful view of various beaches, shipbuilding yard and the Visakhapatnam Port.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rosarychainprayer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ross-hill-land-mark1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-246\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rosarychainprayer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ross-hill-land-mark1.jpg\" alt=\"ross-hill-land-mark1\" width=\"494\" height=\"390\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shrine of Mother Mary\u00a0 Ross Hill, popularly known as Kanyamarykonda, is one of the highest peaks on Eastern Ghats.
